John Lewis explains why Bill Barr is afraid to release the Mueller report

Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) explained to MSNBC host Joy Reid Saturday why he's not confident that Attorney General Bill Barr will release special counsel Robert Mueller's report to the public.

Lewis said he thinks Democratic leadership "will insist that we see the entire report and it be made available to the American people" and that he "100 percent" supports House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and his claim that he'll subpoena Mueller if need be.

The civil rights icon went on to say that he's pessimistic about the possibility that Barr has already told President Donald Trump or the White House about what's in the report.

"I'm not confident," Lewis said. "I believe in Mueller, but I don't have the same feeling for Barr."

"Do you believe that William Barr would potentially, just based on his confirmation hearings, the things he's written about this beforehand — do you believe that there's a possibility that he might just suppress the report?" Reid asked him.

"It is my belief that he may just try to do what he needs to do to protect the president and the people who placed him in this position," the Democrat responded.
