John McCain rips 'idiotic' Michael Moore on 'American Sniper': Does he want us to fight hand-to-hand?

Sen. John McCain blasted documentarian and movie theater owner Michael Moore on Wednesday, saying that Moore did a disservice to service members when he criticized the film American Sniper's portrayal of its subject, Navy SEAL Chris Kyle.

"That's like saying we should not use airplanes, we should not use tanks, we should not use any other weapon," Moore told CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin. "What does he want us to do, go back to hand-to-hand fighting?"

Moore has been lambasted by several conservatives since he called snipers "cowards" on Twitter.

While admitting that he had not seen the movie, McCain took offence to Moore's remark.

"Sometimes, when I hear an idiotic statement like that from someone like Michael Moore, I don't want to dignify it with a response because it's so outrageous," McCain told Melber, arguing that snipers' ability to "neutralize or take out" enemies help them save comrades' lives.

Moore subsequently pushed back against the criticism on Facebook, noting his efforts to help veterans find jobs, as well as provide free showings at his theaters for groups helping veterans deal with post-traumatic stress syndrome.
