Jon Stewart and 'Daily Show' tear into Hannity and Fox for calling ex-NBA owner Jay-Z a 'former crack dealer'

Jon Stewart and his Daily Show colleague Jessica Williams ripped Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday by harping on rapper and entrepreneur Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter's past as a drug dealer.

"Jay-Z is the guy they keep saying they want other Black guys to be," Williams argued. "But to them, he's still just a crack dealer."

Stewart explained that Hannity criticized New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) for meeting with Carter last week amid widespread demonstrations in New York City over the Eric Garner grand jury decision.

Not only did Hannity promote a segment regarding the meeting by saying Cuomo met with an unnamed "former crack dealer," Stewart said, but he focused on one sentence in Carter's autobiography, Decoded.

"I sold crack to addicts who were killing themselves, collecting the wrinkled bills they got from God knows where, and making sure they got their rocks to smoke," Hannity said, reciting the passage. However, he did not mention that Carter, who was never convicted, also wrote that he "stood there thinking, 'What the f*ck am I doing?'" regarding his life as a dealer.

"F*ck man," Stewart said after watching the footage of Hannity's selective reading. "I don't even know what to do here."

Williams said that Hannity's remarks were in line with Fox's history of scolding the Black community, but that Carter -- who went on to leave the drug trade and become a successful rapper and a former part-owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets -- actually fulfills the items on the network's "Black male to-do list."

"Good job, check. Stable marriage, check," she said. "I mean, sure, it's got its ups and downs -- you know, kind of like an elevator. Is he a good father? Check. And he's not just pulling his pants up; the guy actuallly sells belts. That's how devoted he is to the cause of raised pants."

If Fox insists on referring people by the worst thing they've ever done, Williams said, contributor Mark Fuhrman needs "Pled no contest to purjury" under his listing, while Ted Nugent, a regular guest on Hannity's show, should be referred to as a "pants-sh*tting draft dodgy public official threatening statutory rape advocate."

"Fox News has 99 problems, but Jay-Z ain't one," Williams said.
