Jon Stewart: Even Hillary thinks Rand Paul took too long to say he's running for president

It's one thing to build up to a big announcement, Daily Show host Jon Stewart said on Tuesday, but Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) overdid it when he took about an hour to take the stage for his own presidential announcement.

"At this point, Hillary Clinton was like 'Just announce, already, please," Stewart joked.

The Tea Party favorite formally entered the presidential race during a lengthy event in Louisville, which got off to an awkward start when former Rep. J.C. Watts (R-OK) mentioned Paul being "elected the next United States of America."

"I knew that Rand Paul had some unconventional ideas," Stewart said, before stopping to laugh at a picture of a stretchy-faced Paul literally being "the next United States of America."

The Paul announcement was also preceded by a series of video packages detailing both his policy positions and his relationship including one that contained footage of Stewart talking about the senator.

"Thirty minutes into the show, I had said more at this event than the guy who was there to announce his candidacy for president," Stewart observed.

Stewart also took note of the fact that Paul's speech apparently moved one young man enough to flex his muscles.

"'Hulk angry! Hulk angry at overwhelming government surveillance state!'" he joked, puffing up his shoulders to imitate the Paul fan. "'Hulk want audit the Fed!'"
