Conservative commentator and journalist Curtis Houck threw a racially coded attack at former MSNBC host Joy Reid, who is Black, in response to controversial comments she made about MAGA supporters, Vice President JD Vance and Erika Kirk.
Appearing recently on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, Reid argued that Vance’s chances of leading the GOP ticket in 2028 were slim due to having an Indian wife, and suggested that Vance separating from his wife and marrying Charlie Kirk’s widow – rumors of which have circulated since their embrace at a Turning Point USA event – would be the “MAGA fairy tale” that could catapult him to the White House.
“They can't have the successor to MAGA be the guy with the brown Hindu wife, they're also Christian nationalists. That ain't going to work, that's why he's throwing his wife under the bus!” Reid said, referencing Vance’s controversial statement about wanting his wife converted to Christianity.
“You're supposed to be a widow, you're in leather pants? Wouldn't it be the most-perfect MAGA fairy tale if he finally sees the light, that he needs a white queen instead of this brown Hindu?”
Houck immediately dragged Reid for her comments, but laced his critiques with a racially-coded remark.
“Who decides how someone is supposed to be able to grieve? That's just really bizarre, and she goes into code switching, kind of hood talk there,” Houck said. “They’re just miserable!”
Tim Graham, the executive director for the conservative news outlet Newsbusters, also laid into Reid over his comments, attacking her for making everything about “race,” and despite Houck’s comments just moments earlier.
“This is where [for] these people, race is absolutely everything, [they] just have to assume that Republican voters who want a limited government and border control, well they're all segregationists,” Graham said. “This is the kind of imagination that Joy Reid has, she's so bad at her job that she got dumped by MSNBC.”
