Oklahoma Republicans ask GOP governor to halt execution of Black death row inmate

Death row inmate Julius Jones is getting support from a group of Oklahoma GOP lawmakers who are trying to put a halt to his execution, KOCO reports.
In regards to the killing of Paul Howell, state Rep. Garry Mize says there's "too much doubt" as to the guilt of Jones.
"...especially given that Julius Jones' codefendant has confessed to being the real murderer," Mize wrote in a letter to Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt.
"We can't move forward with an execution under these circumstances in good conscience," Mize wrote.
Attorney Kelli Masters, who has been part of the campaign to exonerate Jones, says the truth behind Jones' innocence is "not a liberal issue at all. It's not a conservative issue at all."
"It's a human being. It's looking at truth. It's looking at what is best. It's looking at what is best for all citizens," Masters said.
Jones execution date is Nov. 18, and Gov. Stitt has yet to take action.
