Jury finds Dylann Roof guilty of murdering nine congregants at Charleston black church

Dylann Roof, the self-avowed white supremacist behind the massacre of nine black congregants at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, has been found guilty of all 33 federal charges, according to the Associated Press.

Roof -- who faced 33 federal counts including hate crime charges -- was arrested in June 2015 after he brought a handgun into the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston and opened fire on the congregation. At the end of the massacre, nine churchgoers were killed, including state senator Clementa C. Pinckney.

UPDATE:Charleston Post and Courier reporter Abigail Darlington reported from the courtroom that Roof was found guilty on 24 federal hate crimes violations.

UPDATE: Roof has been found guilty on all 33 counts.

UPDATE: The jury has been dismissed and will return for the penalty phase of the trial on Jan. 3.
