'Just shut the f*ck up': Fox News viewers have a white hot meltdown after host questions need for AR-15s

In an opinion segment on Fox News on Saturday, host Julie Banderas called for sensible gun legislation and questioned why anyone would need an AR-15 assault weapon in their home, and Fox viewers were livid.

Discussing the Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 dead, Banderas asked, "Does America need an assault weapon to protect itself?”

She then answered her own question.

“I’d like to take a timeout now for a common sense moment," she began. "Of course, owning a gun is the right of every US citizen, but it is the responsibility of lawmakers to prevent those who don’t deserve the right from acquiring one. It’s not an infringement on the Second Amendment to stop arming the mentally ill, but some will argue, ‘How do you plan to determine who is mentally ill?’ Well, this goes well beyond mental health — background checks should include criminal records and any history of violence and drug abuse, and why not require training?”

Banderas's challenge to Fox viewers to reflect on changes to gun law laws did not go over well on social media and she faced a deluge of criticism, leading her to tweet Saturday night, "Good night and lighten up. Life is too short."
