'Clear-eyed' Harris' schedule includes heavy dose of prep — and possibly Obamas: report

After a rousing Democratic National Convention, Kamala Harris' calendar now includes a heavy dose of debate prep — and she'll get some help on the campaign trail from some prominent names, according to CNN.

CNN correspondent Priscilla Alvarez told CNN's Wolf Blitzer on Friday afternoon that sources told her Harris is "clear-eyed" about what the next few weeks will look like.

"It's going to be challenging. They know it's going to be a tight race and they want to make sure that they are on the trail and reaching voters, especially in battleground states," said Alvarez.

The campaign is reportedly "bullish" on North Carolina, where there may not be "die-hard Democrats," she said, "but there are voters who are disillusioned with Donald Trump. They're trying to make inroads with all of these voters."

The campaign plans to spend the next couple of weeks heavily prepping for a Sept. 10 debate and using surrogates — such as the Obamas and Clintons — to stump for the vice president.

But their immediate focus: the debate.

"That's when that presidential debate is expected between the vice president and former President Donald Trump," said Alvarez. "So the next couple weeks are going to be focused on those preparations. Those have already gotten underway and she'll do more of that."

While Harris is hitting the campaign trail in that period, a source told Alvarez that pace will "look different from the last couple weeks where she hit every battleground state."

"This time she will continue to be on the campaign trail but also spending a lot of time on those preparations making sure of course that those don't start in earnest until a week before the debate," she said.

Alvarez said a lingering question remains unanswered: when Harris will sit down for an interview with media outlets.

The campaign has said that the interview would happen before the end of the month.
