'Crazy': Critics roast Karoline Leavitt's 'incredible' claim about Trump's economy

President Donald Trump's chief spokesperson was roasted by critics on Monday night after she uncorked a wild claim about Trump's economy on Fox News.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump's press secretary, joined Fox News host Sean Hannity on his eponymous show, where she vigorously defended Trump's alleged economic achievements.

"Thanks to President Trump, Republicans, and common sense policies across the board, our country is safer and more affordable," Leavitt claimed at one point.

Her comments came at a time when the most recent economic data showed that inflation had negated the annual wage gains workers had seen over the last year. Inflation came in at 3.5% over the last 12 months, while annual wage gains averaged 3.2%, according to the data.

The primary cause of those inflationary shocks is Trump's war against Iran, which has sent global energy prices skyrocketing, according to reports.

Critics were quick to remind Leavitt on social media of the economic conditions most Americans face.

"Crazy since pessimism regarding the economy is rising sharply across the board, including among independents and even Republicans. There is no doubt that the cost of living continues to be a top concern," Tahra Hoops, director of economic research at the Chamber of Progress, wrote on X.

"It’s incredible when you can just lie every night with no consequences. Karoline Leavitt tomorrow night on Fox News: Thanks to President Trump, our country is not at war in the Middle East," Veterans for Responsible Leadership, a political advocacy group, posted on X.

"They truly have no respect for any of us. This should be funny but it shows they think we are all idiots. We aren’t," Fred Wellman, a Democratic candidate for Congress in Missouri, posted on X.
