Kellyanne Conway offers excuses as polls close: Blame ‘former presidents not voting for us'

A very subdued Kellyanne Conway tried to sound upbeat as polls closed on Tuesday, but she lamented that Donald Trump could lose because he did "not have the full support of the Republican infrastructure."

Conway told MSNBC's Chuck Todd that she was holding on to hope that Trump could win in Florida and North Carolina.

"The things that would worry, I guess, is just that we didn't have the full support of the Republican infrastructure," she said. "It would really be too bad if we win narrowly and it's not because of the Democrats, but it's because we had former presidents not voting for us, we have former nominees not voting for us."

"And that's got to hurt," Conway added. "And when you talk about growing the party, the idea was growing it but having that base together. And I think it's very unfortunate."

Reflecting on her boss, Conway said that "the guy's a winner."

"He's been an incredibly self-made success story, real American success story," the campaign manager noted. "He always come out on top. This is somebody who is nimble, who is resilient."

"Win or lose, congratulations," Todd said, concluding the interview. "Don't forget to enjoy the moment, no matter what it is."
