Ex-GOP rep.: McCarthy is cowering on Greene because he's afraid to 'diminish' his own fundraising

Former Republican Rep. Denver Riggleman (VA) on Wednesday accused House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) being more concerned about his own fundraising than the future of the Republican Party.

During an interview on CNN, host Alisyn Camerota asked Riggleman why McCarthy has not stripped Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) of her committee assignments after she called for violence and expressed dangerous conspiracy theories.

"We thought he would come out with some sort of action plan or something to hold her accountable for the QAnon conspiracy theories and the violent rhetoric that she's embraced," Camerota said. "But no. So why is this so tough for Minority Leader McCarthy?"

"It's about political calculations right now," Riggleman stated. "So how about fundraising? Marjorie Taylor Greene is fundraising a lot right now from the grassroots."

The former congressman predicted that there would be a "compromise" allowing Greene to keep at least one of her committee assignments.

"Also, Kevin's running for Speaker in 2022," he added. "Does he actually want to diminish the amount of money that's coming into his coffers because he's going against somebody who seems to be pretty popular with the base?"
