'They're coming for you': Strategist warns Kevin McCarthy that the far-right is itching to oust him

House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reportedly has dreams of being Speaker of the House -- but political strategist Sarah Longwell doesn't think he's going to get that far.

Specifically, Longwell pointed to recent comments made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who said that McCarthy at the moment would not have the votes to become Speaker if the GOP took back the House next year.

"We know that Kevin McCarthy has a problem in our conference," Greene said. "He doesn't have the full support to be speaker."

Greene's statement came despite the fact that McCarthy has worked to protect her from Democrat-led moves to strip her of her committee assignments, which he has even vowed to reinstate should the GOP take back the majority.

Longwell believes that McCarthy is setting himself up to be taken down by constantly trying to appease far-right lawmakers such as Greene.

"None of these GOP pols seem to realize that their appeasement strategy with the (now abundant) lunatics in the party simply creates the conditions for their own demise," Longwell warned McCarthy. "They're coming for you."

McCarthy was also mocked by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who said Greene's comments are "what happens when you try to hug a skunk."
