Kristi Noem 'abruptly' cancels CNN interview as dog-killing scandal haunts her

South Dakota Republican Gov. Kristi Noem suddenly canceled an interview with CNN this week as she faces a scandal after admitting she shot her 14-month-old dog to death.

CNN host Dana Bash revealed Wednesday that Noem had backed out of the interview.

"Governor Noem was scheduled to be on this program, Inside Politics, today," Bash announced. "Her team reached out to us weeks ago to book her here. And we reconfirmed earlier this week."

"She abruptly canceled last night," she explained. "We want to say, Governor, you are, of course, welcome on the program any time."

Noem made the admission about killing her dog in a new book, No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.

“Cricket was a wirehair pointer, about 14 months old,” Noem wrote, claiming that the dog had ruined a hunting trip by going “out of her mind with excitement, chasing all those birds and having the time of her life."

“I hated that dog,” the governor added before explaining how she “dragged him to a gravel pit” and "put him down."

Noem had been considered a top candidate for Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate.
