Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem clashed with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday night over the outlet's coverage of left-wing extremism.
Noem joined CNN's Kaitlan Collins on "The Source" to discuss the latest updates in the investigation of a shooting at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday that left two detainees dead and one other injured. President Donald Trump and administration officials like FBI Director Kash Patel have said the shooter was a left-wing extremist.
"Is that information the president received from the Department of Homeland Security?" Collins asked.
Noem dodged the question by arguing that Democrats have adopted extreme positions on issues like crime. She added that she would love to see Democrats like California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) "denounce" criminals rather than standing with them.
"But, as the Secretary of Homeland Security, would you label the Democrats a domestic extremist organization? Yes or no." Collins replied.
"Their views are extreme and theydon't align with the Americanpeople at all," Noem said.
"If you guys would just tellthe truth about what thesecriminals are and what they'vedone in their history, that'd befantastic," she continued. "We send out about fiveor six different press releasesevery day, correcting stories, and I'll send you the copies ofthe ones that you've gottenwrong that we've been able tocorrect."
"But but these lawenforcement officers are beingdemonized, and they should besupported because they havefamilies, too, and they live inthese communities," she added.
