Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) falsely claimed this week that the recent wildfires near Los Angeles would still be burning if President Donald Trump had not ordered the military to release water from California dams.
Boebert made the remark during a Republican press conference about government spending on Tuesday.
"Our tax dollars that are going to these NGOs and the ridiculous amount of payments that are going out, even to terrorists, do you have media here that is questioning this and saying, oh, well, they really can't access it?" she opined. "Joe Biden couldn't even rebuild after hurricanes when we have American citizens who are suffering."
"I mean, we have folks after the fire, the Palisade fire, who are still suffering," she continued. "And that's mainly because of red tape. And if it weren't for President Trump opening up the spigot, I don't know, it may still be on fire."
According to a fact check by The Dispatch, Trump's decision to release water from California dams did not contribute to fighting the fires near Los Angeles.

"The Southern California wildfires reached 100 percent containment on January 31, the same day that President Donald Trump announced on social media that he had ordered the release of more than 1 billion gallons of water from two California dams," The Dispatch explained. "Trump did order that two Californian dams increase their water flow, but that water is not going to Southern California for firefighting operations."
