Columnist Joe Conanson got heated on Saturday when former Fox News contributor Jen Kerns said that she thinks it's appropriate for the Department of Justice to be opening politically-motivated investigations of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation.
Host Joy Reid pointed to a story in the New York Times detailing a new effort by state prosecutors to dig up dirt on the Clinton Foundation.
Kerns said that it's entirely appropriate to be asking, "Did the Clinton Foundation abuse its tax-exempt status?" and "Did they participate in a pay-to-play scandal?"
Reid pointed out that President Donald Trump's now-defunct Trump Foundation has been caught scamming donors, spending money on portrait paintings of Trump and allegedly using donor funds to bribe Florida Attorney Gen. Pam Bondi.
"Do you think the Donald Trump's foundation should be investigated by the DoJ?" Reid asked.
"No," said Kerns, "I don't."
"You know what's happening in Arkansas," said Conanson, "is they appointed a crony of Mike Huckabee as interim U.S. attorney and he's pretending to investigate this and they will find nothing there."
"I'd like to make a wager with Jen," he said, betting, "any amount you want that any criminal charges ever filed against the Clinton Foundation or anybody associated with it, what do you say? Let's go, right now."
Kerns said that she doesn't have the kind of money Mitt Romney does to lay down on bets, but that she'll accept.
"You want to be that there will be somebody criminally indicted in the Clinton Foundation?" Conanson said. "You're going to say that now?"
