Little girl's heartbreaking plea: Grandpa walks 6 miles to work and is losing home to Medicaid debt

A 10-year-old girl in Dearborn Heights took action after she discovered that her grandfather's feet were bloody from walking six miles to work every day. And to make matters worse, he's losing his home over medical debts.

In a letter to WJBK's Problem Solvers, Samara Boyles said that she walked into her grandfather's room one day and saw how badly his feet were bleeding.

"Hi my name is Samara Boyles and I am 10 years old, I am writing you to ask you to please help my grandpa," the letter begins. "All I want for Christmas is for him to get a car so his feet won't have to hurt."

The letter explains that her grandfather, Bob Keller, "has had bad luck since grandma died of cancer."

Keller told WJBK that the family will be forced to move in February because he cannot afford back taxes on his home and the Medicaid debt from his late wife's cancer treatments. He also lost his car after declaring bankruptcy due to the medical bills.

"They can't sell you a car unless you have a couple thousand down to put on a car, which I don't have," he pointed out. "They all want two or three thousand dollars down to buy a car and I don't have that. I'm just barely making it here."

Keller, who is a truck driver, said that he leaves his house by 4 a.m. every morning because it takes two hours to walk six miles work.

"Up until it got cold it wasn't bad," he remarked. "Sure I don't want to walk but I had to, I didn't have a choice."
