Louie Gohmert: I will say 'Thank you God' when Republicans finally kick me out of Congress

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said on Wednesday that he would owe a debt of gratitude to God when the Republicans finally decided to vote him out of office.

After trying to oust Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) as House Speaker and getting only three votes on Tuesday, Gohmert spoke to Fox News host Elisabeth Hasselbeck the next morning, who asked if the Tea Party wing of the party would be able to work together with establishment Republicans.

"You've got to be able to put aside problems and work through them, and work together," Gohmert explained. "Once the battle was over then we've got to work together."

The Texas Republican insisted that the battle for the Speaker's gavel was never about him personally, and that's why he had encouraged other Tea Party Republicans to also take on Boehner.

"I don't think the Speaker's staff realizes just how close they came to having a different boss," he insisted. "Just after we were going to work together after the battle was over, then we're told it's not over. We're going to screw you over. And it's one thing when you get hurt on your own exercise equipment, but its another when your own Speaker does it."

Hasselbeck wondered if Gohmert was "worried about your own future there" after reports indicated that Boehner had planned to dole out punishments for Republican members who defected during Tuesday's vote.

"No," Gohmert laughed. "If I woke up someday, and was told, 'Well, you're out, your party turned against you so you lost the election,' I would literally be able to say, 'Thank you, God. I thought I was going to have to keep doing this job.'"

"I don't have a problem with that," the congressman said.
