Maddow: Republicans beginning to purge 'the crazy'

On her show Friday night, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow explained that the Republican Party appeared to be in the process of purging some of its more kooky members.

"In trying to figure out who the Republican Party is going to be next, how they are going to bounce back from this big loss they have just suffered, all across the country -- in their politics at the national level and below that -- Republicans are starting to try to disassociate themselves from the crazy," she said. "Some Republicans are. More than used to. I don't want to say it is a hard and fast rule, it could easily be disproved, but I think it is happening more than it used to happen."

Maddow noted that the Georgia Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, a Republican, had convened a caucus that included a presentation on how President Barack Obama was involved in a mind-control conspiracy to create a United Nations communist dictatorship. The incident ended Rogers' term as the Majority Leader.

In Maine, Maddow reported that Charlie Webster, the chairman of Maine’s Republican Party, said he believed voter fraud was a problem in the state because he saw "dozens of black people" voting in towns where nobody "knows anyone who’s black." Like with Rogers, the incident led to Webster stepping down as chairman.

The liberal MSNBC host remarked that Republican in Congress even distanced themselves from recent comments made by former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The White House hopeful said Obama won the election because of "gifts" he gave to minorities and women, like access to free birth control.
