Maher advises Dems: 'Honky vote' just wants to know 'whose a** we're kicking next'

With the midterm elections less than a month away, Real Time host Bill Maher said, Democrats need to work on their communication skills -- not to minority communities, but to working-class white voters. And to do so, he said, they need to start sounding more like conservatives.

"Trust me, these subtleties of foreign policy are of no interest to the honky vote," Maher said. "All they want to know is, whose a*s are we kicking next? At the first sign of trouble anywhere, say things like, 'We'll hit them with a brick while they're sleeping.' Remember, we're not just the world's policeman -- we're the world's Ferguson, Missouri policeman."

Maher said that with the economy improving and gas prices declining, Democrats shouldn't have a hard time connecting to the white electorate -- "After all, they drink Budweiser," he observed -- so he offered up some tips, including using the right code words to discuss race, without doing so explicitly.

"Phrases like 'culture of dependency,' 'personal responsibility,' and of course, 'violence in elevators,'" he explained.

He also told Democrats to openly talk more about small businesses -- to an extreme.

"You're not just for them. You don't just support them. You love them," Maher exhorted. "You wish you could f*ck small businesses."

Maher argued that white people are fixated on the idea of telling off their "d*ck-for-brains" bosses and starting their own small businesses.

"Do not screw with the imaginary small business in whitey's head," Maher advised.
