Maher 'Real Time' panel burns down evangelicals over their love affair with Trump: 'Power is their end'

During the "Overtime" segment of HBO's Real Time, host Bill Maher's panel unanimously piled on Christian evangelicals for their undying support for Donald Trump, saying they are willing to overlook his sins in the pursuit of power.

Using the abortion debate as a jumping off point, the panel noted that Trump is appointing judges who would make right-wing Christian's anti-choice dreams come true, with conservative Jamie Kirchick stating, "Trump is the one evangelicals support."

"This goes back to the debate about abortion," Center for American Progress CEO Neera Tanden explained. "The thing that is happening with the evangelical right is that they have an attitude towards women. His [Trump's] strongest group of support is evangelicals."

Author George Packer chimed in, "This connects with Saudi Arabia and Iran where theocracy turns religion into power."

"This aspect of the Republican Party is a theocratic party would that would enshrine religion as a way to take people's right," he added, later stating, "Power is their end."
