'Make the sacrifice': Priest rips pro-gun Fox host on live TV for opposing 'common sense' assault weapons ban

Fox News contributor Father Jonathan Morris told gun rights advocate Tucker Carlson on Sunday that he should "make the sacrifice" and support a ban on military-style assault weapons.

"One or two people decided they would say God couldn't fix this," Morris told the hosts of Fox & Friends following the recent mass shootings in San Bernardino. "That God's not going to fix... the access to guns and so politicians need to."

Morris argued that President Barack Obama needed to show "leadership" by blaming "radical Islamist ideology" for the attacks.

The priest pointed out that gun control alone would not have stopped the San Bernardino shooters, but he insisted that new laws could be part of the solution.

"I would hope that we could have common-sense laws to keep guns, these military-style guns out of the hands of bad people," Morris remarked. "And also of good people. I mean, in my opinion. Some people will disagree with that. I don't think we need people out there with these military-style assault weapons."

"I like them," Carlson grimaced.

"Make the sacrifice," Morris replied, turning to Carlson, "to make sure they don't get in the hands of other people, of bad people, whether it's gang members or whether it's radical Islamists."

However, the father reminded viewers not to live in fear "because life is short."

"Some people tell me, 'I'm fearful of going out, I am scared, what is this world coming to,'" Morris suggested. "Life your life! Live your life and live it to the best."

"The people who think about death the most are always the happiest," Carson chimed in, forcing a moment of awkward silence.

"Because they're not in denial!" Carson exclaimed. "And they recognize they don't have much time left."
