Male and female San Bernardino shooting suspects killed after pursuit: police

Two suspects -- one male, one female -- connected to the mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino were shot and killed during a confrontation with authorities, police said on Wednesday evening.

Footage aired on KNBC-TV showed police surrounding a black SUV that was riddled with gunfire after authorities and the suspects reportedly exchanged fire after being pursued. They were dressed in "assault-style clothing" and armed with assault rifles and handguns at the time of their deaths. One police officer was wounded during the incident but is expected to recover.

Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said a third person was detained after being seen leaving the scene of the clash between the suspects and authorities. However, this person has not been identified as a suspect.

The FBI is also searching through a house in nearby Redlands looking for explosives. Police said an explosive device may have been left in the suspects' vehicle. Authorities were not willing to call the incident, which resulted in the deaths of 14 people, a terrorist attack.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the shooting may have been precipitated by an argument during a holiday event inside the building. Burguan confirmed that there was a dispute during the party and that one person left and returned, but said it was unclear whether that person was one of the suspects.
