Manafort moves to keep Mueller from using explosive files acquired in warehouse search

In a filing late Friday night, attorneys for former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort asked a judge to intervene and throw out any evidence against their client acquired in a search of a storage locker belonging to Manafort's firm.

According to Politico, the FBI gained access to the storage unit in Alexandria, Virginia, last May with the help of a staffer who worked for several of Manafort's companies. At the time the warrant was signed by a judge, the FBI agent based his request on what he saw written on the file boxes as well as information held in a filing cabinet.

The late Friday filing claims Manafort's Constitutional rights were violated because the entry to the locker was illegal since the employee did not not have authority to let the FBI in. The defense also argues that there was overreach in the warrant and that agents seizing records went overboard.

"The FBI Agent had no legitimate basis to reasonably believe that the former employee had common authority to consent to the warrantless initial search of the storage unit," Manafort attorneys Kevin Downing and Thomas Zehnle stated in their filing.
