Marjorie Taylor Greene’s antics on the House floor may have just backfired badly

After being stripped of her committee assignments, Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene responded by repeatedly motioning to adjourn legislative debate, forcing House members to come to the floor and vote to remain in session -- a strategy that is infuriating Democrats and even members of her own party, according to The Washington Post.

This Wednesday, Greene moved to adjourn as the House was gearing up to debate the coronavirus relief package. Her motion was defeated, with 40 Republicans rebuking her.

"That marked the fourth time in recent weeks that Greene moved to adjourn," the Post reports. "Each time, the number of Republicans voting against her increased, including some of the chamber's most conservative members on Wednesday."

Now, a Democrat is stepping up to put a stop to Greene's tactics. Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) says he will propose a rule change to stop her, Newsweek reports.

"I'm dead serious," he told reporters.

Cicilline's proposal will allow a member to motion to adjourn only if they're a member of a committee.

When asked about Cicilline's proposal, Greene called him "Rep. Mussolini."

"Not only did Democrats unilaterally strip away my committees, now they want to remove any powers I have to represent my district. The Democrats run the House of Hypocrites with tyrannical control," she said.
