Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) broke with Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday over whether a racist group chat leaked to Politico should be considered acceptable behavior.
On Tuesday, Politico reported on a group chat between state chapter members of the Young Republican group where they discussed rape and murdering their political opponents. The report sent shockwaves through the Republican Party. Several members denounced the chat, and many of the people included in the chat have been fired from their jobs, according to reports.
But Vance defended the group chat in an interview on "The Charlie Kirk Show" on Tuesday.
“Focus on the real issues,” Vance said during the show. “Don’t focus on what kids say in group chats.”
Mullin discussed the texts on CNN's "The Arena" with Kasie Hunt on Wednesday afternoon.
"I didn't hear thevice president'sremarks, but I would never letmy kids joke like that," Mullin said. "That's a solidno."
"My grandfather fought in World War II. He went over on Omaha Beach. He saw thedespicable things that the Nazisdid to not just the Jewishpeople, but to other countriesand other races along the way," Mullin added. "He went into a concentrationcamp...andso there's no room to joke for me. It'sa hard stop that you'renot associated with mewhatsoever if you think that'sfunny."
