Matt Gaetz accuses Kevin McCarthy of ‘uninspired’ leadership and ‘playing patty-cake’ with Democrats

GOP Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) essentially received a vote of no confidence from one of his own party members as Republicans seek control of the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm election.

During an interview with Gina Loudon, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) panned McCarthy and said the would nominate Trump to be speaker of the House if Republicans win control in the midterms. Under congressional rules, the speaker need not be a member of Congress.

""I am very eager for Donald Trump's return to Washington, but I am an impatient man," Gaetz said. "Why wait for 2024 if it looks like Republicans could take the House back in 2022."

"I think the real question is why you've heard a lot of folks talking about Trump for speaker again," he continued. "And there are a few factors that contribute to that. First, I that we're sort of uninspired with our current leadership, from a strategic standpoint, from a tactical standpoint."

"The American people want to see Republicans stand up and defend the tens of millions of Americans who feel like their vote was disgraced, like their communities are being overtaken, and a leadership that seems to be kind of more interested in playing patty-cake with the Democrats than actually getting into the battle and fighting," he said.

"And we know the best, most inspiring fighter in our movement is Donald J. Trump and that's why I've pledged to nominate him for speaker of the House when we take control of 2022.
