A 13-minute documentary lampooning the shortest-tenured U.S. House speaker in 147 years, conceived and posted by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), argues the chaos caused in the House or Representatives was "a gripping tale of power, perseverance, and triumph."
Gaetz posted the film on X, showcasing his many rebellious, swamp draining speeches and talking head appearances on news outlets that led up to and ended with a 15 round saga that it took for McCarthy to finally slam the gavel back in January.
"Get ready to dive into the heart of the battle for the gavel that took the country by storm this year," Gaetz waxed about the documentary titled Gaveled Out: Return of The People's House, according to the Washington Times. "Today my office is releasing a short documentary on a gripping tale of power, perseverance, and triumph of the American people over The Swamp. Witness the dramatic unraveling of events that led to the ousting of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House."
He added: "They branded us agents of chaos, but what really happened? This is more than a story — it's a revolution. A journey of reclaiming the House, prioritizing YOUR voice over the dollars of lobbyists and special interests."
The Florida pol had submitted votes for former "President Donald John Trump" at one point and also House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), until relenting to vote "present."
The flick is a post mortem of Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) 269 day tenure as Speaker of the House that came to an abrupt end when eight GOP hardliners ousted him from the the powerful perch.
McCarthy lost his gavel on a vote of 216 to 210, where 208 Democrats locked in step with eight Republicans who broke ranks after McCarthy attempted to broker a deal with President Joe Biden to raise the debt ceiling.
But on Oct. 3, Gaetz was one of eight House Republicans, Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Ken Buck (R-CO), Tim Burchett (R-TN), Eli Crane (R-AZ), Bob Good (R-VA), Matt Rosendale (R-MT), and Nancy Mace (R-SC), who joined Democrats and voted to unseat McCarthy.
A stalemate followed with several suitors trying to fill McCarthy's shoes until fourth term Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was finally elected.
