Former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) had little good to say about his ex-colleague Matt Gaetz (R-FL) after a damning House Ethics Committee report found what it described as "substantial evidence" that the Florida Republican "violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress."
Appearing on MSNBC on Monday, Dent said that former congressman Gaetz would have a very hard time brushing off the allegations.
"This report strikes me as a full-throated rejection of Matt Gaetz on a bipartisan level," he said. "Of course, Matt Gaetz has denied all the allegations. What's stunning to me is that Gaetz said over the weekend, I believe, that he was just simply partying, womanizing, carousing, that sort of thing. Well, no. Congress would never investigate something like that. What they investigated were allegations of sex with a minor and paying for it!"

Dent then addressed Gaetz's threat to rescind his resignation to return to Congress next year, and he argued that Gaetz would likely face outright expulsion should he attempt such a stunt.
"It is so damning for him, if he gets sworn in — he suggested he might get sworn in in January — there will be a motion to expel," he said. "I want to see what the committee was recommending as a sanction... I suspect it would be expulsion."
To underscore the damning nature of the report, Dent added that "this almost has a Jeffrey Epstein flair to this... it's pretty serious."
