Watch: Gaetz mocks McCarthy for being out-negotiated repeatedly by 'feeble' Joe Biden
October 02, 2023
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) continued his seemingly never-ending campaign to torment his own party's leader on Monday when he taunted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for his failure to extract serious concessions from Democrats in his efforts to avoid a government shutdown.
Gaetz began his speech by accusing McCarthy and Democrats of negotiating a secret "side deal" to fund more military aid to Ukraine, which for two years has been under relentless military assault by Russia.
"To extend Joe Biden's spending and policy priorities, the Speaker of the House gave away to Joe Biden the money for Ukraine that Joe Biden wanted!" he charged.

Gaetz, who more than anyone in the Republican caucus helped weaken McCarthy's negotiating position by obstructing every attempt to keep the government funded, then ridiculed the speaker for supposedly getting beaten by President Joe Biden, whose age and mental acuity have been repeatedly attacked by Republicans.
"It is going to be difficult for my Republican friends to keep calling President Biden feeble while he continues to take Speaker McCarthy's lunch money in every negotiation," he said.
Gaetz has repeatedly threatened to file a motion to vacate the chair against McCarthy, although he did not do so during this particular speech.
