Busted: GOP candidate mocked after sleuths rip apart home cooking brag
January 03, 2024
Former Texas congresswoman and current GOP candidate Mayra Flores is the target of mockery after she made a social media post of food she said she'd cooked — and was quickly revealed to have been taken from a promotional Facebook page back in 2022.
Flores posted the photo with the caption: “The Ranch life with family is the best.” In the comments, she was asked to clarify what kind of food she was cooking, to which she said it was the popular Mexican dish "Gorditas de masa."
But internet sleuths discovered that the photo didn't even come close to representing Mexican food, since it originated on a Facebook dedicated to Guyanese cooking and was not something rustled up by Flores, as she clearly wanted her social media followers to believe.

"Here’s @MayraFlores_TX trying to convince people that she’s living the high life and making dinner over an open fire at the ranch. Only problem is: this picture was stolen from a Guyanese facebook page. Why would you lie, Mayra?" a user on X wrote.
After the word got out that the photo was not taken by Flores, she locked down her X account and changed her handle from @MayraFlores_TX to @MayraFlores4Tx. The photo now appears to have been deleted.
According to a report from Current Revolt, this isn't the first time Flores has shared a photo that wasn't hers while claiming otherwise. CR found multiple examples of Flores sharing images she obtained elsewhere and passing them off as organic photos she took herself.
