Meghan McCain on reducing sexual assault: Send men to sex workers so they figure out how not to rape women

ABC's The View co-host Meghan McCain suggested on Wednesday that sexual assaults in American could be reduced if men were given lessons from sex workers on how to get consent.

During a discussion about a new app that allows sexual partners to express consent, McCain offered another solution.

McCain said that while speaking to the manager of the Bunny Ranch brothel in Nevada, she came up with an idea for preventing rapes.

"And all of these consent/not consent [stories], it has given me more reason to think that we should legalize prostitution," McCain opined. "Because if there are men who are like, 'Dating is so complicated and a lot of grey zones with consent,' maybe we should legalize prostitution so it is a very blanket agreement, legally, of what you are asking."

"I think Trump would be up for that," co-host Joy Behar joked.

While the other co-hosts expressed support for the legalization of prostitution, it wasn't clear that any of them bought into McCain's idea that prostitution alone would change men who refuse to get a woman's consent before sex.

"I don't know," McCain shrugged. "I just thought of that when we were talking."

Rates of sexual assaults among sex workers is general higher than it is for other populations in the U.S. Different studies have found that between 34 and 80 percent of sexual workers in the U.S. have been sexually assaulted.
