Michael Avenatti was named in a lawsuit with a GOP megadonor client of Michael Cohen's — and he doesn't know why

Stormy Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti has become a celebrity in his own right — and proof can be found in a sealed lawsuit that names him as a defendant alongside GOP megadonor Elliott Broidy, a client of the president's erstwhile personal attorney Michael Cohen.

On July 1, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Broidy is backing out of a hush-money agreement with former Playboy Playmate Shera Bechard because Keith Davidson, Bechard's former lawyer that also used to represent Daniels, shared details about the model's non-disclosure agreement with Avenatti.

On July 6, Avenatti said in a statement that Bechard has filed her own lawsuit — but he doesn't know what's in it because it was sealed "on an emergency basis."

"Earlier today, I learned that Ms. Shera Bechard filed a new lawsuit naming Mr. Elliott Broidy, Mr. Keith Davidson, his law firm and me as Defendants," Avenatti's statement read. "I presently do not know what the allegations are because the Complaint was immediately sealed, on an emergency basis, at the request of Ms. Bechard's attorneys."

"This is highly unusual under California law," he noted.

Avenatti went on to say that he has "no idea" why he was named in the suit because he "never represented her" and had never been in contact with her.

"I was never a party to any agreement with her and I never had any obligation to her," the attorney's statement continued.
