Michael Moore details game plan he says would 'nail' Trump’s 'idiocy and insanity'

During the United States' 2016 presidential election, progressive filmmaker Michael Moore predicted that GOP nominee Donald Trump would win Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan — three Rust Belt states that then-President Barack Obama had carried in 2008 and 2012.

And Moore's prediction was spot on: Trump lost the popular vote to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but his victories in those states helped him win the electoral vote and therefore, win the election.

But eight years later, Moore is feeling much more "hopeful" about Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign.

In an interview with The Guardian Thursday, the creator of "Sicko," "Bowling for Columbine" and other documentaries laid out some reasons why he believes Harris' momentum is real.

Moore, now 70, told The Guardian, "This isn't just a sugar-high or what (recovering) heroin addicts call a pink cloud. It was so depressing for so many weeks, and then, it was instantly not depressing. I am hopeful now, but it's ours to blow. And we have a history of blowing it."

Moore argued that Harris has been getting under Trump's "thin skin" and needs to continue doing so.

"I think I'm going to see what I was hoping for for eight years," the filmmaker told The Guardian. "Once anybody gets under that thin skin, anything can happen. On live TV? Trump could explode, start talking like a 12-year-old — though no offense to 12-year-olds — or get up and leave."

Moore noted that attacking Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as "weird" or creepy is an effective line of attack for Democrats. And he sees the upcoming presidential debate as a chance for Harris to bury Trump's campaign if she plays her cards right.

"Do weird and cringe until the debate, and then nail him," Moore told The Guardian. "But nail him with irony, satire and a simple way to point out the beyond-weird absolute idiocy and insanity of what these two men are talking about. Reach them on a common-sense level so it doesn't matter if you're Democrat or Republican.”
