Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) had a lot to say from his seat behind President Joe Biden Thursday night — while barely uttering a word.
Throughout Biden's booming tone that covered many topics — including several direct barbs against his "predecessor" as he brought up the economy, immigration and reproductive rights — Johnson could be seen smirking, grinning, and even rolling his eyes.
The online viewers didn't miss his nuanced reactions.
"The many expressions of Mike Johnson: The look, The nod, The clap, The clap out of view of the camera, The yeah I should clap but I can’t," wrote X user @CaucusRedux.
"MAGA Mike Johnson's pained expression while President Biden spanked Republicans during the State of the Union gave me life," posted @BrooklynDad_defiant!
And @notoriousPJB wrote: "Johnson’s face tells me he likely saw the script for Katie Britt’s hilariously-contrived breathless creepfest of a Republican rebuttal to Biden’s SOTU, and grew more and more uncomfortable as the inevitable moment of its unveiling drew near…"
Some, however, saw a clear reflection of what they were thinking. "You want the truth," posted @tleague12, "just watch House Speaker Mike Johnson facial expressions to all the BS being said at the State of The Union Address by @JoeBiden."
And @billbarnett65 agreed, tweeting: "The expressions on Mike Johnson (speaker of the house) accurately reflect what I’m thinking."

"Mike Johnson's expressions are priceless," @susanreutter64 posted. "Thanks Mike for helping me get through all of Biden's BS tonight!!"
After the speech, Johnson delivered actual words to explain his position.
"While I appreciate his optimism tonight, no amount of flowery prose or aspirational promises can mask the failures of his time in office," read his response. "In recent days, I’ve met with community leaders and business owners throughout Louisiana who feel, acutely, the pain of President Biden’s policies."
"The State of the Union is in chaos, but it doesn’t have to be this way. If we lead with conviction, transparency, and common sense we can reverse this decline and usher in a new era of American greatness — and we will."
