Republicans are headed for an apocalypse in the fall — at least, that's the prediction of one GOP strategist.
Mike Madrid, writing for his Substack, outlined how the current environment is "as bad for the Republicans as I have seen in thirty years."
"I haven’t seen things this bad since probably 1994 before the seismic revolt that upended Washington, D.C., and the GOP took control of Congress for the first time in 40 years," he wrote. For one thing, Trump is at catastrophic polling lows, reaching 33 percent in some recent surveys. And for another, voters consistently rank corruption as a serious issue, after months of negative headlines about ill dealings in the Trump administration.
All of this, he wrote, is occurring as the Iran war continues to drive up energy prices, inflation stays high, and "polling is showing states like Alaska, Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia and even Iowa and Kansas as far more competitive or safe for Democrats than most would’ve dared to say out loud just a couple months ago."
Making matters worse for Republicans, he said, there is a huge gulf in voter enthusiasm, with Democratic voters at "volcanic" levels of desperation to get to the polls.
"Is there time for Republicans to fix it and correct course? Yes," he concluded. However, the flip side is "that means there’s also time for things to deteriorate further and get even worse for Republicans. Buckle up."
