Former Homeland Security aide Miles Taylor ripped into President Donald Trump on Thursday's edition of "Deadline: White House," saying that his ballroom project writes its own attack ads and Democrats hardly have their work cut out for them at all.
This comes as even Republican lawmakers fight over the new proposal to include $1 billion in funding for the project.
MS NOW's Ayman Mohyeldin started the segment by showing pictures of the construction of the ballroom. "How do Democrats use theseimages ... in themidterms, with him also sayinghe does not care about the financial concerns of Americanswhen so many Americans arestruggling economically?" He added that these commercials "basically write themselves."
Taylor, best known as the author of the anonymous "resistance" op-ed in the first Trump administration, agreed with that assessment.
"There's almost nothing thatDemocratic operatives need todo other than just news-boostthese stories," he said, adding that "the morethe American people becomeaware of this, the moredisgusted they are. And thisisn't just the left. I mean, weare seeing Donald Trump'snumbers among independentscratering. We are seeing MAGAaudiences breaking away fromthe president. And it's becauseof things like this."
In short, Taylor said, Trump is "handing a gift to the Democrats."
Furthermore, he added, speaking as a former security staffer in multiple presidential administrations, "I cantell you unequivocally, from asecurity standpoint, there isno purpose to this. It ispurely a vanity project. Thisis not a national securityproject. There is no need forit whatsoever. Anything thepresident says about it shouldbe couched in the fact that hewants a place to dance andthrow parties, and that is whatthis is about."
"Oh, and by theway, he wants to put his nameon something that lasts longerthan him," Taylor concluded. "But I can assure youof one thing. His name willcome off that ballroom if itgets built, and there's a goodchance that ballroom getsdeconstructed if he goesforward with it."
