"The View" began talking about the retirement of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) — and the audience broke into cheers and applause.
"The other big news out of D.C. yesterday was that the longest serving party leader in Senate history, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, announced it's time for him to go," Whoopi Goldberg said.
"Don't hold back. Don't hold back," said Joy Behar.
Goldberg read President Joe Biden's statement about the GOP leader in the Senate's departure, which gushed over mutual respect and peaceful disagreements on policy. Biden went so far as to say he would miss McConnell.
"So the question at this table is, will you?" Goldberg asked.
"No," said Sunny Hostin.
"I will miss him like I miss bird flu," Behar quipped.
"I think most people understand that Mitch McConnell is singularly responsible for the composition of the Supreme Court," Hostin explained. "The current composition of the Supreme Court. I think most people understand that in a game of unfair political gamesmanship, whatever you want to call it, he denied President Obama the right to seat Merrick Garland. He stole a Supreme Court seat."
Behar asked Hostin to "do the next part."
"And then he pushes through someone —" Hostin continued.
"The handmaiden," Behar cut in.
"He pushed through Gorsuch and then he also pushed through Amy Coney Barrett," Hostin continued. "So, when you look at the state of this country and women's reproductive health rights, and the way immigrants and undocumented people are being treated, just all the things, I don't know that he should be proud of his legacy. And I think it was time for him to go."

Conservative Republicans on team Donald Trump made their own complaints on Wednesday, citing McConnell's loyalty to "big pharma" and corporate interests. Others attacked him for his loyalty to supporting Ukraine after Russia invaded it.
Last week, Trump indicated McConnell would be removed if the former president won a second term in the White House. McConnell deprived him of that glory.
McConnell will step down from the leadership in November and didn't reveal if he intends to run when his term ends in 2027.
