Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough has been trying to nudge President-elect Donald Trump into picking people such as Mitt Romney or Kelly Ayotte for important cabinet positions -- but now it sounds like he's starting to worry Trump won't listen.
Talking about Trump's meetings with Rudy Giuliani and Chris Christie this past weekend, Scarborough said that Trump's incoming administration is already "on the precipice" of disaster -- and could well tip over if Trump makes another couple of bad picks for his cabinet.
"This is why someone like Mitt Romney calms the waters," Scarborough explained. "If you put up somebody like Rudy Giuliani that stirs up the waters, then you're not only going to be talking about Giuliani... then people would bring up Steve Bannon, which they would not bring up in a Mitt Romney [confirmation hearing]. They're going to bring up what Kobach has said, they're going to bring up what Sessions has said in there. They're going to bring up what Flynn has said in there, and taking money from the Russians."
Scarborough concluded that if Trump taps Giuliani or Kobach for high-level cabinet positions, the wheels would quickly fall off the Trump administration before it even takes power.
"Right now, this administration-to-be... is on the precipice," he said. "It can pick people like General Mattis and Mitt Romney, and move this in one direction. Or they can pick henchmen who've taken money from terror groups in the past. If they go that direction, if they go the Giuliani-Kobach way, it's going to be a meltdown."
