On a MSNBC appearance, analyst Pablo Torre criticized El Salvadorian President Nayib Armando Bukele's "chess piece" tweet and the reaction from the Trump Administration which ensued.
“I think about what Bukele, the self-appointed, quote-unquote ‘coolest dictator in the world,’ tweeted as this photo op was happening last night,” Torre said.
“[Bukele] said, ‘I love chess,’ period, and then Dan Scavino (deputy chief of staff in the Trump administration) tweeted with a chess piece emoji, and the eyeball emoji. Just to translate this, they're trying to make it seem like rank, malice, and incompetence is a strategy,” Torre opined.

“So when it comes to what is the fight they want to have, what is the move they're really making? Is this a chess move? I just want to remind everybody of the fight they are running scared from and why this all smells like weakness, Joe. That's the smell that you're detecting around all of this,” Torre told "Morning Joe" host Joe Scarborough.
“Why is this a winning debate for people who want to see the rule of law win the day? It's because in the court system, on that terrain, they keep on losing,” Torre added, “and you mentioned the 41-year veteran, of course, of the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court. You mentioned the Supreme Court. I just want to remind everybody, you don't need to listen to any mob or any messenger. You just have to ask yourself, do you want to listen to the courts? In that way, it's a bigger issue than any mere immigration thin-sliced subject we want to talk about. It's a matter of the law.”
