MSNBC analyst slaps down Lindsey Graham for lying about Bill Barr’s role in the Mueller report

Former federal prosecutor and MSNBC legal analyst Cynthia Alksne on Monday said Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) wasn't telling the truth when he claimed that special counsel Robert Mueller gave his report to Attorney General Bill Barr to decide if President Trump was in the clear. In fact, she said, Barr had "injected himself" into the process -- and now Republicans were trying to keep the full report hidden.

Mueller "knew that he was not allowed, under Department of Justice policies, to indict the president", Alksne said. "What did he do? He laid out all the positives on one side and negatives on one side, and the positives and negatives on the other, and he teed it up for Congress."

"Lindsey Graham said, 'oh, Bob Mueller sent it up to Attorney General Barr to decide.' There's no evidence that's true," she continued. "Bill Barr is the one who injected himself into this process. It is not his place to decide."

Alksne said that the American people would eventually see the Mueller report, but predicted it would be like pulling teeth.

"I don't really believe that they really want to get the evidence out," Alksne said of Trump and the GOP. "They have what they want. Who are we kidding? They don't want to get the positives and the negatives out, they want that hidden."

"The House is going to have to demand to see the full report if they want to get it," she continued. "It is not going to be enough to subpoena Barr to come up to the House, we'll have to hear from Mueller exactly what he found and what the underlying facts were."
