MSNBC panel floored by Trump’s ‘primal’ compulsion to defend domestic abusers

President Donald Trump seems to have a compulsion for defending men in all situations where they've been accused of something by women, an MSNBC panel noted.

During a conversation over the , Nicolle Wallace and Donny Deutsch named off the series of men Trump has pledged his loyalty.

Whether it's Rob Porter, Roy Moore, Bill O'Reilly, Roger Ailes or Corey Lewandowski, Trump took their side when accused by women of some sort of violence.

"Why does he continuously double down on an issue that should be a non-issue, on domestic violence?" Deutsch wondered.

"Well, let's not laugh because that was hard for them," Wallace noted. "I mean, let's just stop right there. Last week, John Kelly, in their first statement about Rob Porter and allegations of domestic abuse were that he was a man of integrity. It was many hours later that same night that they came out against domestic violence."

Deutsch wondered if there is a "thesis" Trump plays on, "other than the fact that ."

"There is a part of this country that are women and men who think there's an overreaction," he continued. "'Ya know! What's the big deal,' kind of thing. I think that he preys into that very ignorant, frightening thought that both a lot of men and women -- that are not at this table and most of them are not in this city, and they're not watching news. But that are not as evolved. I don't want to use the word 'evolved.' That are not as sane as us when it comes to these issues."

Deutsch said that there seems to be a very testosterone-fueled "strongman image."

"Yeah, there's a couple of collateral damage of women along the way, as sick as that sounds," he continued. "I can't reason that out. It's a very sick and very primal and it's a very disgusting point of view. But maybe that's underneath. Because it doesn't make any sense why he plays it any other way."
