President Donald Trump addressed the UN Security Council for the first time Wednesday, following a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In his speech, Trump denounced the Iran deal and the regime's activities in the region. He also praised Iran, Russia and Syria, for temporarily slowing their offensive against Idlib province in Syria.
Trump then attacked China for allegedly interfering in upcoming US elections "against my administration," he said. "They do not want me or us to win." The president claimed that China was acting in retaliation for the president's trade war.
Following the speech, commentators tried to make sense of the president's claims. As MSNBC host Hallie Jackson pointed out, the president blasted China for election interference—yet pointedly made no mention of documented Russian influence in US elections.
"By the way, mentioning election interference, but not Russia or Vladimir Putin," she observed.
