MSNBC's Katy Tur announced on Tuesday that the FBI "does not currently have any plans" to interview Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, ultimately resulting in the bureau re-opening its background check.
Although Ford's legal team "has repeatedly reached out to the FBI," Tur reported that "the White House feels her testimony at Thursday's public hearing was sufficient."
A clearly bewildered Tur pointed out that calls for Ford to be interviewed were bipartisan, and would seem to make sense given her role in the accusations.
"I guess the question now is does somebody like Jeff Flake think that this means that this is an investigation that was done with the purpose of finding out all the information they can or was it done as a smoke show, as a screen, a fig leaf," Tur said, turning to cohost Ali Velshi.
"Jeff Flake needs to think about that," Velshi agreed. "Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, the same senators we are looking at last week will be able to say whenever this report goes to the senate, 'was it legitimate, was it real', or as you say, 'was it a fig leaf'?"
