MSNBC's Morning Joe predicts Trump will 'cash out' and leave the presidency

MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski appeared Thursday on Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" to talk politics and the recent re-release of Brzezinski's book empowering women.

The conversation turned to who they think will challenge Trump in 2020. Brzezinski mentioned former Vice President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State John Kerry. But Colbert wondered if a Republican would go after Trump in a primary.

"I think so, but I will say it again: I don't think they will have to step up to challenge Donald Trump because I don't think Donald Trump is going to run for reelection," Scarborough said. "He didn't want to be elected for president. He didn't think he was going to be elected or even get the Republican nomination. He's going to cash out."

Colbert was shocked and noted he would hate to see it happen.

"I think that would be a smart thing for him to do," Colbert began. "I tell you why I don't want it to happen is because I think it's important that the voters of America have an opportunity to say, 'Oops, my bad! We made a mistake there!' and correct themselves. And if Donald Trump doesn't run, he takes away that corrective action of history and, therefore, his president presidency is whole and unjudged. If he just doesn't run again, 'I fixed it, made it great again, goodbye,' and he takes the $100 million he's raised and makes another failing casino or something."
