MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle crushes Trump apologist after he changes subject from Mueller to Democrats

Matt Gorman, former communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee tried to change the subject from the Mueller investigation into a discourse on Democratic obstruction, and was ridiculed by host Stephanie Ruhle.

Ruhle asked Gorman how Republicans would handle the results of the yet-to-be-seen Mueller investigation, given that many hadn't supported the president to begin with. Gorman said that "anything short" of collusion would be a win for the president. Then he pivoted away from what was clearly a touchy subject.

"At the NRCC, we did polling and one of the most effective lines of attack, one of the few effective lines of attack against House Democrats last cycle was that they would grind D.C. to a halt," he said. "That there would be no legislative agenda."

"When you say 'grind D.C. to a halt' would you compare that to, I don't know, Mitch McConnell blocking President Obama for eight years?" replied Ruhle, smirking. "How would you compare that?"

"No not at all, because President Obama got legislative things through," stammered Gorman, who was clearly pleased to not have to talk about the president's legal troubles. "If Democrats are not going to have a proactive legislative agenda, then I think that could backfire especially with swing voters suburban women who went Democratic in 2018."

"They can't walk and chew gum at the same time?" interjected Ruhle.

"So far they have not been shown to," shot back Gorman.

"Really? I'm pretty sure we saw the House take action on gun legislation," Ruhle said. "The first time we have seen that in over ten years."

"But what can actually pass the senate?", pressed Gorman. "Infrastructure, trade deals." Those are things we've talked about

"The president has been hosting infrastructure week 17 times since he won, and nothing got done," Ruhle laughed. "You can't blame Democrats for that."
