Nancy Pelosi said she rather ‘pass gun laws’ than ‘win the election’

Nancy Pelosi, minority leader of the House of Representatives, sat down with CNN's Chris Cuomo during a town hall interview.

A high school student from Maryland stood up and asked a question about gun safety, and referenced the latest mass shooting in Santa Fe, Texas.

"As the American people cast their ballots this November, why should we believe that your priorities will have changed?" He asks Pelosi about her stance on gun safety.

Pelosi said it was a priority and that she would rather pass a background check bill than win  the upcoming election.

"I'll tell you this, and I tell this to the kids all the time. I would rather pass the background check in the Congress right now today than win the election. Because doing so sooner would save lives," she said.
