The federal government added two additional felony charges against Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, who is accused of murdering National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom and wounding Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, according to a new report.
CBS News Justice Correspondent Scott MacFarlane reported on Tuesday that federal prosecutors filed a new criminal indictment against Lakanwal, adding two felonies for transporting and selling firearms internationally. Lakanwal was previously charged with first-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and assault with intent to kill.
The shooting occurred shortly before Thanksgiving in Washington, D.C. Beckstrom and Wolfe were deployed to the District from West Virginia because of President Donald Trump's surge in National Guard troop presence, according to PBS News.
