Republican lawmakers are quietly moving to rein in President Donald Trump’s talk of buying or even militarily seizing Greenland, warning the idea could spark impeachment threats, fracture the party, and severely damage U.S. alliances. According to Politico, opposition inside the GOP has intensified, with lawmakers privately reassuring Denmark while publicly signaling there is little appetite for Trump’s proposals. Some Republicans fear the issue could deepen internal divisions during an already difficult election year, while others warn it could “incinerate” NATO relations. As a bipartisan delegation heads to Copenhagen to tamp down tensions, skeptical GOP lawmakers are hoping Trump recognizes he lacks support in Congress for a move many see as reckless and unprecedented.
